Christ as the Wisdom and Power of God

Jesus Christ embodies both God's wisdom and God's power. The cross, which looks like weakness and foolishness to the world, is actually the supreme display of both. True divine wisdom isn't an abstract idea — it's a person: Jesus Christ, crucified and risen.

Interpretation Guardrails

  • •Jesus Christ crucified and risen is the definitive display of both God's wisdom and God's power.
  • •The cross must never be interpreted as mere defeat, because in it God accomplishes His saving purpose.
  • •Divine wisdom is personal and Christ-centered rather than merely abstract or philosophical.
  • •God's power is revealed not only in miracles but supremely in the redemptive work of Christ.

Misconceptions We Reject

  • Do not imply that Christ is merely an abstract attribute or impersonal concept.
  • Do not use Proverbs 8 in a way that teaches Christ is a created being.
  • Do not separate divine wisdom from the person and work of Christ.
  • Do not reduce wisdom to human intellect, education, or practical advice apart from Christ.

What We Reject

(1)

Arianism (Power as Delegated)

The Claim

Christ as the 'power of God' is a delegated, created agent — God's power exercised through a created being, not God's own intrinsic power.

Christ is not a created agent through whom God's power operates — He IS the power of God, co-essential with the Father. He upholds all things by the word of His power, which is His own, not delegated.

Original Language: The Greek 'dynamis' (G1411) in 1 Corinthians 1:24 — 'Christ the power of God' — 'tou Theou' is objective genitive: Christ IS God's power, not merely empowered by God. 'Pherōn' (G5342) in Hebrews 1:3 — 'upholding the universe by the word of His power' — present active participle: Christ continuously sustains all creation by His own word ('rhēmati,' ), proving co-equal sovereignty.
