Covenant Obedience and Sanctions
When God makes a covenant, He attaches blessings to obedience and curses to disobedience. Under the old covenant with Israel, this was symbolized by two mountains — one for blessing, one for curse. The principle remains: God's people are called to hear and obey, and there are real consequences.
Core Concepts
Interpretation Guardrails
- •God attaches real blessings to covenant obedience and real curses to covenant disobedience.
- •The covenant sanctions in Israel's history reveal God's moral seriousness and faithfulness.
- •God's people are still called to hear and obey Him rather than treat covenant life lightly.
- •Divine consequences must not be interpreted as arbitrary or detached from God's covenant word.
Misconceptions We Reject
- Obedience independently earns a person’s covenant identity
- The temporal sanctions of the Mosaic covenant should be applied without qualification to every Christian circumstance
- Covenant belonging removes personal responsibility to obey God

What We Reject
(1)Covenant Nomism (Salvation by Law-Keeping)
The Claim
Salvation is maintained through faithful observance of covenant law. Obedience to the covenant's commands is the basis of right standing before God, not faith in Christ alone.
No one is justified by works of the law. Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. New Covenant obedience is the fruit of the Spirit's internal work, not the condition for maintaining salvation. Law-keeping cannot produce or sustain right standing before God.
Original Language: The Greek 'diakaioutai' (G1344) in Galatians 2:16 — 'no one is justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ' — 'ex ergōn nomou' 'by works of law' is explicitly denied as a means of justification. 'Telos' (G5056) in Romans 10:4 — 'Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes' — 'telos' 'end, goal, termination' — Christ terminates law-keeping as the path to righteousness. 'Engraphō' (G1125) in Hebrews 8:10 — 'I will put My laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts' — 'epi' 'on' — the New Covenant writes the law internally by the Spirit, not as an external code to earn salvation.
