Imputed Righteousness in Christ
When you trust in Christ, God credits Christ's perfect righteousness to your account. You're not counted righteous because you lived a good life — you're counted righteous because Jesus did, and His record is applied to you. It's like having someone else pay off your debt and credit their fortune to your name.
Core Concepts
Interpretation Guardrails
- •Believers are counted righteous before God because Christ's righteousness is credited to them.
- •Justification rests on Christ's obedience and saving work, not on human moral achievement.
- •Faith receives this righteousness; it does not create or merit it.
- •God's declaration of righteousness does not mean He ignores sin, but that sin is answered in Christ.
Misconceptions We Reject
- Believers earn righteousness through works
- Christ personally became morally sinful
- Imputed righteousness makes sanctification unnecessary

What We Reject
(1)Infused Righteousness (Roman Catholic Justification)
The Claim
Justification is not a once-for-all declaration but an ongoing process in which righteousness is infused into the believer through sacraments and cooperation with grace. We are made righteous, not declared righteous.
Scripture teaches that justification is a forensic declaration — God declares the sinner righteous on the basis of Christ's imputed righteousness, not on the basis of an infused habit of grace within. Our righteousness is alien (Christ's), not inherent (our own).
Original Language: The Greek 'logizomai' (G3049) in Romans 4:5 — 'To the one who does not work but believes, his faith is counted as righteousness' — 'logizetai' is an accounting term: to impute, to credit to one's account. It is a declaration, not a transformation. 'Allotria' 'foreign/alien' righteousness in Philippians 3:9 — 'not having a righteousness of my own... but that which comes through faith in Christ' — Paul contrasts inherent righteousness with imputed. 'Dikaioō' (G1344) 'to declare righteous' is forensic — used in court contexts (Deuteronomy 25:1 LXX, Romans 8:33).
