Indwelling Gift of the Holy Spirit

The Father gives the Holy Spirit to every believer as a permanent, living presence within them. The Spirit gives spiritual life, teaches truth, and enables the believer to respond to Christ. You don't have to go to a special place or through a special person to experience God's presence — He lives inside you.

What We Reject

Sacramentalism (Spirit Through Rituals)

The Claim

The Holy Spirit is received and increased through sacramental rituals — baptism, confirmation, eucharist. The Spirit's indwelling is mediated by the church's sacraments, not by direct, sovereign regeneration.

The Holy Spirit is received by faith, not by sacramental ritual. He indwells every believer at conversion — sealing them as a guarantee — not incrementally dispensed through church ceremonies. The Spirit's work is sovereign and immediate, not mediated by sacraments.

Original Language: The Greek 'esphragisthēte' (G4972) in Ephesians 1:13 — 'you were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit' — aorist passive: a completed act at the moment of belief ('pisteusantes,' ), not through a sacrament. 'Oikei' (G3611) in 1 Corinthians 6:19 — 'your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you' — present active: the Spirit continuously dwells in every believer, not incrementally through rituals. 'Lambanō' (G2983) in Galatians 3:2 — 'Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith?' — 'ex ergōn nomou' 'by works of law' is explicitly denied.
