The Claim
A truly born-again believer can lose their salvation through sin or unfaithfulness and must persevere by their own effort to remain saved.
Salvation is kept by God's faithfulness, not human performance. Christ Himself promises that no one can snatch His sheep from His hand, and the Father's eternal decree — not our consistency — guarantees our perseverance. If salvation could be lost by sin, it would be by works, contradicting grace.
Original Language: The Greek word 'tēreō' (G5083) in Jude 24 means 'to guard, to keep, to preserve' — it is God who keeps us, not we who keep ourselves. 'Phthano' in 1 Thessalonians 5:24 confirms: 'Faithful is He who calls you, who also will do it.'
